A great enrichment
For more than 50 years, printmaking was at the center of his work. Consequently, it is hardly surprising that Sovak, who enriches this genre in a great way, is given a professorship for free graphics at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences for Art and Design from 1975 to 1991 and is honored and awarded at exhibitions worldwide.
The beginning of the intensive involvement with (drypoint) etching lies in 1957 in the meeting with Master Pegrassi, the owner of a copperplate print shop near Sovak's apartment in Prague. The first individual sheets between 1958 and 1963 deal mainly with the "city" in all its facets (such as underpass, street, platform, panorama, canal, passage, etc.).
